foldershare is awesome
November 14, 2005 4:19 pmToday, I tried the foldershare program from http://www.foldershare.com . I have to admit that it’s a slick piece of software which allows you to easily keep a directory in sync on different computers.
For example, I have a directory on my laptop that I keep in synchronization with a directory on my computer at work. When I’m out and around and doing some work on my laptop, I can just drag n’ drop the files into the directory on my laptop and within a few minutes they will show up on my computer at work. It’s cool that the file transfer is encrypted to prevent exposing any sensitive data to prying eyes.
It was a bit disconcerning to see a remote website that was able to read my entire C:\ drive so I disabled web downloads on the computers (foldershare icon — More — Settings — Transfers — uncheck Allow web downloads from this computer).
I can always re-enable it if I know ahead of time that I’ll need full access to my whole hard drive from a remote location.
Naturally, there is a ‘friends’ option where you can select a directory to synchronize with your friends. This would make for a small private file network to easily share files with each other.
This software gets a 5/5 out of me!
