When is a Hummer better than a Hybrid?
November 21, 2006 12:57 pmMaybe when you are in the sack :-)
But seriously, this blog post talks about the 450 pages report by CNW that goes on to calculate the Total Energy Cost per Mile Driven of a vehicle. The report which took two years, does a “Dust to Dust” lifetime analysis of the total cost/impact of creation, ownership, and disposal. In other words, the “dollars per lifetime mile” that you would be spending on the car.
The surprise that will knock off your socks? Honda Accord Hybrid will cost $3.29 dollars per lifetime mile and the Hummer H3 clocks in at only $1.95! Basically, this report says the world is better off if you were driving a H3 rather than a Japanese hybrid!
The results of this report runs in face of an America that is trying to be more energy-conscious and seems to have the fingerprints of oil companies all over it. Then again… Common sense is not always enough. It’s all about how our perspective on things which have not always been correct. People in the past thought the world was flat until more rigorous analysis was done.
This report definitely needs some more looking into… Was it soundly done or were there some flawed premises that were accepted?
