Moving day for my blog: jaredlog.com
May 4, 2008 3:12 pmIt’s finally the day when I am uprooting from my Typepad blog and moving over to my own self-hosted Wordpress-based blog. This day has been long in coming.
I got my first taste of blogging with LiveJournal on Jan 25, 2004. Exactly one year later, I moved to Typepad because I wasn’t ready to do a self-hosted blog and wanted to leave the responsibility of system uptime to someone else. Typepad has served its purpose well but I have started to get frustrated by their limits on layout changes, third party plug-ins, and crappy statistical tracking. Luckily, I have a lot of programming experience and was able to work around them.
Wordpress offers 100% customization and myriads of plug-ins that can do just about everything under the sun. It’s an excellent platform for experienced bloggers who want to make full use of their blogs and are willing to tackle the steep learning curve for customization. The only downside (which will be temporary) is that I’m essentially giving up the high Google page rank of the Typepad blog. I will need to completely rebuild my online reputation with Google from scratch. I’ve exported my Typepad blog posts to my new blog but it remains to be seen if Google will be smart enough to transfer my page ranking as well.
I will be no longer updating this blog but will leave it up for future reference until Typepad removes the blog.
Be seeing you all over at my new blog! Aim your web browsers to jaredlog.com!
My overall Typepad blog stats: Lifetime page views: 216,085 and average per day: 180
**Update** Whoa! When I canceled my Typepad membership, the blog was immediately removed. I wish they would leave it up for 30 days to allow time for SEO to transfer the online reputation to my new blog.
