Tip for vbloggers: When is the best day or time to post?

6:17 am

As the co-founder of DeafRead.com which aggregates over 600 Deaf vbloggers, I’m often asked, “When is the best day or time to post a vblog entry for the highest view count?” My answer was based upon a rough estimation from my observations over time of DeafRead views. I’ve noticed that Thursday afternoons tend to give off the best results.

I just discovered this post by Jake Luciani, who did software analysis using 10,000 posts from delicious, digg, reddit and mixx and ran them all thru aiderss feed api.

His conclusion: between 1pm and 3pm PST (after lunch) or between 5pm and 7pm PST (after work) are the best times and Thursday is the best day. The worst time to post? Between 3 and 5 PM PST on the weekends – nobody cares.

The vblog posts on DeafRead continue to be clicked upon for 1-2 days, so posting one day earlier on a Wednesday may lead to higher overall view count with Thursday as a boost.

As a Brit viewer, first and foremost Americans look at American blogs (Why not :) ), and at about 5 or 6 people usually.

OK fine they are excellent bloggers, but those of us taking a bit more time to read beyond the first 3 main pages of deaf.read (Most don't get beyond the second), notice there are some interesting blogs around relegated to deaf.extra, often we are unsure why.

While I am here offering an overview ! Who decides the category of the input to deaf.read ? and HOW ? I've seen blogs listed as cultural with no cultural content in it ! and technology with nothing very technical in it either, there are other categories too that are of dubious labeling, the content is fine, just the categorizing of them, it IS important because those who use the tag systems will look for their specific area then think, what has THAT to really do with it ?

No doubt the current reason for 'deafside' or should it be Deaf side ! I rather fear deaf.read is getting top heavy and complicated to navigate, the front page is also a mass of confusions with deaf.read this, that, and the other, as the 'tagging' applies pretty 'globally' we just go around in circles.

It all affects what is and isn't read of course too. I think deaf, read extra is a failure frankly. It is clear a number have no deaf/HI interest of any description. I have an alternative blog as well that isn't deaf oriented, I don't put that up for inclusion, I think deaf.read should specify that, offering a link is acceptable but NOT The blog itself.

What do you think, should deaf.read extra go ? be changed ? I realize this is 'labor intensive' hence perhaps advice first to say "If it aint deaf or HI relevant, please do not send in.." I really do not want to know what their dogs are doing or stuff like that !

I also find the 'voting' system pretty pointless there too, it's clear most don't.
  • I think it's more than just a numbers game. The swarm of DeafReaders do a great job at bringing out the more interesting vblogs and this is reflected in the view counts.

The top ten is just a 'numbers' game, how about someone actually reading into the others for 'special interest' or valid point ? We don't wanna get into 'celebrity deafie' mode do we ? There is a need to offer to highlight lesser erudite blogs, foreign input etc...deaf people can't always be clever and savvy, or speaka da english...but have a point to make, you should help them out... Off-centre blog of the week, guest blog ?
  • MM: That's what the Top 10 list is for. You can quickly see what was relevant in the last 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days, 90 days.

I do few vblogs wha tI HAVE noted is that when you pull up page 1, loadsa comments, page 2 50% drop, page 3 75% drop page 4 you're out. Vblog or blog, outta sight, outta mind, right ? 24 hours is a long time in deaf.read..... The tnink about blogs and vblogs isn't timing surely ? but relevance ? Deaf.read has to find a way to keep blogs visible in case people DO miss something...

It really dont matter when the blogs are posted.

All blogs and vlogs are created equally and should be treated equally too.

That's what I previously suspected about the best time for posting the blog/vlog within the middle of week.

Thanks to you, Jared and Jake Luciani for sharing your findings with all of us, DeafRead readers and viewers. :)

I am not really care about the "hits" number on my blog posting as I get my messages or newsreports out to people whenever available.

Thank Goodness, the DeafRead do not e n g a g e in the rating numbers to cancel the blogger or vlogger out of the game.
