Dual Monitors With Ubuntu and Nvidia video card
September 8, 2008 12:08 pmSetting up dual display with two flat screen LCDs (one DVI, the other VGA) or laptop with second VGA display.
Install envyng-gtk package
sudo envyng-gtk and install the Nvidia video driver.
Restart Ubuntu with dual displays plugged in.
sudo nvidia-settings and select TwinVIew and primary display. Configure the second monitor (Use Detect Display button, if necessary). Select which monitor you want to be the default. Save to X configuration file.
Logout and log back in.
As long as you’re doing this, install compiz effects manager to set special visual effects on the desktop:
sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager
Once the Custom option is chosen you can click the preferences tab to open up the effects. In the future you can also access these options directly by going to System>Preferences>Advanced Desktop Effect.
